MoBU, the first contemporary art fair in Bucharest, successfully concluded from May 29th to June 2nd, 2024, at Romexpo. The second edition of MoBU showcased over 100 artists and galleries from Romania, China, Japan, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Moldova, Ukraine, and the UK. Attendees were treated to a rich diversity of contemporary artworks, spanning painting, sculpture, video art, installations, and performance pieces, reflecting the vibrant and multifaceted nature of contemporary art.
This year’s fair placed a significant emphasis on engaging younger audiences and supporting emerging artists, with participation from art faculties in Bucharest, Cluj, Iași, and Timișoara. This initiative aimed to foster a new generation of art appreciators and creators. Director Demetra Arapu remarked, “Participants highlighted the importance of engaging younger audiences and fostering an appreciation for contemporary art among new generations, so we are supporting the new generation of artists”.
Kulterra Gallery attended MoBU 2024, showcasing works from a diverse group of contemporary artists from Romania and the Republic of Moldova. The gallery featured two dedicated booths, A05 and A06, displaying a variety of artworks ranging from paintings to mixed media installations. Kulterra’s mission to support emerging artists was evident in their curated selection, which included artists like Arina Bican, ATOMA, and Natalia Romanciuc, among others.
In addition to their exhibition space, Kulterra played a crucial role in MoBU’s organization. This involvement underscores our commitment to nurturing the local art scene and facilitating connections between artists, collectors, and the broader art community.
Reflecting on the event, MoBU director Demetra Arapu stated, “The second edition of MoBU highlighted artists and works from many countries, creating a hybrid event that connected the Romanian public with the international art market. We aimed to present contemporary art that invites conceptualization and reflection”.
MoBU proved to be an unmissable event for anyone passionate about the transformative power of art.
